This season the Patrick Henry Pitching staff took another step forward while facing a tough schedule and moving up to Division I Baseball. Our pitching staff increased their innings pitched (232 IP), Strike Percentage (62.8%), First Pitch Strike Percentage (61.4%), K/BB Rate (2.64), and K's per game (8.2). They also lowered their FIP to (2.31). With a significant increase in level of competition, our ERA (2.87), Strikeouts (277), WHIP (1.32), Runs Allowed, and BB/INN all stayed consistent and in line with our goals for the season. Full statistics can be found here! This great regular season run culminated with an (8-4) Western League Record, and a fourth consecutive League Championship.
Patrick Henry also made a great playoff run this year, with Cody Cappelletti (RHP-'25) and Talin Gardini (LHP-'24) both shutting out Poway on back to days to advance to the CIF San Diego Section D1 Championship Game. After being the runner up in that tournament, the Patriots played in the CIF State Playoffs and ended up falling to Bakersfield Christian in the State Semifinals.
Much of his training took place at the premiere pitching development facility in the United States, The Texas Baseball Ranch™️, led by Coach Ron Wolforth, near Houston, TX. Coach Doole believes in their unique training approach that first and foremost identifies mechanical inefficiencies, and movement restrictions. His training program emphasizes the importance of reducing arm pain first; resulting in better arm health, command, velocity, and effective off-speed pitches. The goal is to find a throw for a pitcher that has no pain, and explodes out of the hand. Coach Doole is proof that velocity is not “God given” and can be developed in a formulaic way, and looks forward to sharing cutting edge training techniques with you!
Far too often, arm pain and injury have become normalized in ballplayers. Youth athletes have few alternatives for help besides ice, rest, and in extreme cases, their local orthopedic surgeon. Identifying the 11 possible upper and lower half disconnections in a player’s throwing motion and reducing them helps pitchers reduce arm pain, throw harder, recover faster, and perform more consistently. Identifying these early in the pitcher’s career is vital and is critical for pitchers to protect their arms and their careers. The goal of Workhorse Pitching is for players to become their own best pitching coach - empowering players to understand their own most efficient throwing mechanics. If they can do this, they will be able to make adjustments and adapt their training and drills accordingly. Every player has their own unique throwing motion so we try to augment what they already do well while making adjustments to areas of disconnection.
Jordan played baseball at Patrick Henry High School in San Diego where he was a 2 year Varsity player, as a pitcher and an outfielder. He was selected First-Team All Eastern League, Varsity MVP, and Pitcher of the Year. He graduated from UC San Diego in 3 years with a B.A in Political Science and a Minor in Entrepreneurship & Innovation. He was also the pitching coach and a member of the Club Baseball team. During those summers, he attended the Texas Baseball Ranch, to further develop himself as a pitcher and coach. In his time spent training at the Ranch, he gained 5MPH on his fastball, and learned how to throw virtually pain free. He is now pursuing a Masters in Sports Management at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX. He looks to jumpstart his college coaching career with this opportunity! He will graduate in 2025.
